Prof. Pradyumna Vyas is an eminent design educationist and a globally respected thought leader in the field of design and innovation. With over 38 years of professional and academic experience, Prof. Vyas has been at the forefront of design advancement both in India and internationally.
He served as the Director of the National Institute of Design (NID) from 2009 to 2019 and was instrumental in NID being granted the prestigious status of an Institute of National Importance through an Act of Parliament. Under his leadership, four new NIDs were established across India to extend the reach of design education.
Currently, Prof. Vyas is the President Elect of the World Design Council and serves as Senior Advisor for Design Promotion and Innovation at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). His global presence is underscored by his active participation in international juries and committees across Japan, Germany, China, and Taiwan.
A postgraduate in Industrial Design from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, Prof. Vyas was also conferred an Honorary Master of Arts degree by the University for the Creative Arts, UK, in 2010. He was closely associated with the formation of the India Design Council (IDC) under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry and served as its first Member Secretary.
Prof. Vyas conceptualized and launched the India Design Mark (I-Mark) in collaboration with the Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP), creating a benchmark for design excellence in India.
